How I tell the story of your day

Images and Words: How I weave visuals and narrative to tell the story of your wedding day.

Scroll down to the bottom of this page to see an example of one of my longer cinematic wedding films, or stick around for a minute and read how I like to carefully mix images and words to create an engaging film of your wedding that stands the test of time.

Your wedding film is more than just a collection of beautiful shots set over a nice piece of music. As good as that would be, it wouldn’t really convey the emotion and vibe of the day, and that’s why my approach is to take some of the words spoken on the day, maybe from a speech, a reading from a friend, or some nice words spoken by the registrar or priest, and weave them into the footage which helps tell the story of your big day in a more cinematic and engaging way.

A good example of this approach could be a shot from the father of the bride’s speech saying how beautiful his daughter is, over shots of her getting ready, or the groom saying how beautiful his bride is, over a shot of her walking down the aisle etc. I find this approach creates a film that is engaging to watch and stands the test of time and is something you will want to watch time and time again.

Along with this, I choose music that reflects the vibe of your wedding and the energy of the surroundings, for example, the music behind shots of the bridal party getting ready may well be chilled and laid back, however the music to go along with the drinks reception will be more upbeat, and of course music used for the evening party will likely be fairly high energy.

An example of a longer film

The example below is a longer highlights film (from my ‘enhanced cinematic highlights’ package – 22 minutes) and this is a good example of how I mix images and words. This was a relatively small wedding at a tranquil lakeside venue, and the vibe was very relaxed. Everyone was fairly reserved and chilled, and the music reflects that, building up through the afternoon reception and then fairly upbeat for the evening reception and party where it got a little livelier, especially when the band fired up.

Of course all my wedding films are a little different to each other, as each wedding has it’s own vibe, but this gives you an idea of how I work with images and words to create each unique wedding film.
